Our veterinary team includes 6 veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and customer service representatives. We offer the highest standards and each staff member is dedicated to providing the absolute best care for your pet.Simon Alexander, V.M.D.

Dr. Simon Alexander grew up in Aroostook County He did his pre-veterinary studies at the University of Maine, graduating in 2000 with a degree in Animal Science. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, and graduated with a VMD in 2004. After graduation, he worked in Dover-Foxcroft for 2 1/2 years before purchasing Penobscot Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Justina Kolvoord as a partner in the fall of 2006.
Dr. Alexander's practice comprises both general companion animals and livestock, with an emphasis on dairy. He provides regular and on-farm emergency service to clients in Penobscot county, as well as providing scheduled and consultation services to farm clients as far north as Fort Kent.
He makes his home in Exeter with his wife Sarah and daughters Emma, Lucy, and Vera, two English Setters and one overweight cat.
Tina Kolvoord, D.V.M.
Dr. Tina Kolvoord grew up in Bucksport, Maine. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Bacholer's degree in Zoology. She stayed at Michigan State University and attended Veterinary School receiving her DVM in May of 2005. After graduation, she returned to her home state of Maine and worked as a mixed animal practitioner for one and a half years before purchasing Penobscot Veterinary Services in October of 2006. Her interests include surgery, orthopedics and internal medicine. She shares her home with her husband and daughter, a Great Dane, 2 cats and 3 horses.James L. Meiczinger, D.V.M.

Dr. James Meiczinger was born in Ithaca, New York. He attended New York State School of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. After receiving his DVM in 1967, he went on to work for Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital in Augusta, Maine. He co-founded Penobscot Veterinary Hospital in 1971. Dr. Meiczinger is now semi-retired but continues to see clients at this practice two days a week.
Diana Thomas, D.V.M.

Dr. Diana Thomas grew up on Prince Edward Island. Following in her father's footsteps she pursued a career in Veterinary Medicine, earning her DVM degree in 1998 from Atlantic Veterinary College , PEI. After graduation she joined the professional staff at Penobscot Veterinary Service. Diana has a special interest in Ultrasound.
Laura Buckley, D.V.M.

Dr. Laura Buckley is originally from Connecticut and attended Delaware Tech and Lincoln University for her undergraduate degree. She is a 2004 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation she moved to mid-coast Maine, but then joined Penobscot Veterinary in July 2007. She also teaches in the Veterinary Technology program at University College of Bangor. She shares her home with her husband, 2 Golden Retrievers - Cabot and Lupine and 2 tabby cats - Maple and Oliver.
Laura Leighton, V.M.D.

Dr. Laura Leighton grew up in Lincoln, Maine and attended St. Lawrence University and University of Maine for her pre-veterinary studies, before attending and graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing small animal and poultry medicine with Penobscot Veterinary Services since September of 2007. Her Medical interests include reptile and wildlife medicine, turtles in particular, bovine and poultry medicine and she hopes to pursue oncology as well as holstic medicine. She, her husband and daughter reside in Orono, with their cat, a turtle and chickens.
